31st Governing Body meeting of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority

The 31st Governing Body meeting of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) was held today (18.01.2018) at 12.30 PM under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary and Chairman OSDMA. Shri Bishnupada Sethi, Commissioner-cum-Secretary & Managing Director, OSDMA has briefed the Members on different Agenda. Many senior officers of the State Government and some distinguished Members have participated in the meeting. Different activities of OSDMA like Disaster preparedness, Capacity building of ODRAF, Fire Service, Civil Defence, Stake holders, Early Warning Dissemination System, Construction and completion of flood and cyclone shelter, Functioning of Drought Monitoring Cell, Implementation of Odisha Disaster Recovery Project, Relocation of Satabhaya villager at Bagapatia, Procurement of different equipment for ODRAF and Cyclone/ Flood shelter were discussed in this meeting. 
To protect Human lives and livestock in the coastal areas of the State from tsunami and cyclone, one innovative project namely Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS) is almost at the final stage and is targeted to be completed by 31st March, 2018. This project is first of its kind in the entire country.
The newly constituted 10 ODRAF units will be provided with State of the Art, Search & Rescue equipment and the SAR equipment available with the existing 10 ODRAF units and all the Fire Stations will be upgraded. 
One comprehensive annual training calendar developed by OSDMA for imparting training, skill upgradation and awareness generation among all the stake holders like ODRAF, Fire Services, Civil defence, PRI Members, School Students,  NCC cadets, NSS volunteers has been approved. 
In Jagatsinghpur and Puri districts, 400 identified community volunteers will be trained and equipped under Aapada Mitra scheme of NDMA.
The State Drought Monitoring Cell in OSDMA will install Automated Weather Stations (AWS) in all the Blocks and Automated Rain Gauges in most of the identified GPs for effective monitoring of Drought and Crop Insurance in the State. 
One state of the Art dedicated institute for imparting training namely State Institute of Disaster Management (SIDM) would soon be established at Gothapatna, Bhubaneswar for effective capacity building of all the stake holders and research activities for disaster management in the State.
The Cyclone shelters / Flood shelters (62 numbers) which are being constructed under CMRF, State Plan and World Bank funding will be expedited and targeted to be completed within the stipulated time frame.
It has been decided to ensure vacation of old houses and occupation of new houses by the selected beneficiaries under World Bank assisted ODRP in Ganjam and Khordha districts. The sea eroded villages and the affected villagers of Satabhaya under Kendrapara district are being shifted to Bagapatia relocation site of Rajnagar Block. It was decided to expedite the construction of houses at relocation site including the earth filling.
